Making your festive season easier.
Did you know, you can make your Christmas puddings NOW?! And simply store in the fridge until the big day? That'll take just a tiny bit of the pressure off! You know what else will take the pressure off? The fact that you can actually STEAM your puddings in your Varoma rather than boiling for hours on the stove!
First step - make a batch of your favourite Christmas pudding mixture. For our rich-and-dark pudding recipe (using all the traditional ingredients), turn to page 178 in Quick Fix in the Thermomix. For our lighter recipe, turn to page 291 in Quick Fix Every Occasion, and for our vegan Christmas puddings, you can check out the free recipe here! Of course, you can use your family-favourite recipe also.
Next - decide if you want to make one big one in our 1L pudding steamer (pictured), a huge one in our 2L pudding steamer (my choice!), or lots of little individual ones in our dariole moulds or mini pudding steamers (so cute and easy to serve!). Not sure which? Watch alyce whip up both and then decide (actually, if you follow one of our recipes you'll have enough mixture to do both a 1L and individual ones... just sayin'!). Or, if you’ve got a slow cooker, you can do all these options also, including the extra-large Christmas pudding in our 2L pudding steamer! In my option, this is by far the easiest option 😉
1L pudding steamer instructions (for Thermomix or thermo cooker):
Lightly grease your pudding steamer using olive oil, then fill with your favourite Christmas pudding mixture. Lock on lid. Fill TC bowl with 1.5L water, place steaming tray in position and place pudding dish inside (with lid on!). Steam for 3 hours, steaming temperature, speed 3, checking water often and topping up when required. Turn out your pudding and voila!
2L pudding steamer instructions (for Thermomix or thermo cooker):
Lightly grease your pudding steamer using olive oil, then fill with your favourite Christmas pudding mixture. Lock on lid. Fill TC bowl with 1.5L water. Place steaming tray in position, then top with MaxiSteam Extender for Varoma. Place Trivet inside steaming tray and then place pudding dish on top (with lid on!). Steam for 5 hours, steaming temperature, speed 3, checking water often and topping up when required. Turn out your pudding and voila!
P.S. If you upgrade our MaxiSteam Extender to a Steaming Pack it includes the trivet, as well as 16 dariole moulds perfect for your individual puddings (at a discount)! Click here to check it out.
Dariole mould instructions (for Thermomix or thermo cooker):
Fill 8 lightly greased dariole moulds with your favourite Christmas pudding mixture, leaving 1cm space from the top. Fill TC bowl with 1.2L water, place puddings in lower steaming tray and cover with upside down varoma steaming mat or foil (this is to stop water pooling in the top of the puddings). Steam for 50 minutes, steaming temperature, speed 3. Allow puddings to stand for 5 minutes before turning out onto a plate. Now your moulds are free to reuse. Repeat with remaining puddings, bringing the water level back to 1.2L first.
P.S. If you’ve got one of our MaxiSteam Extenders for Varoma, you can actually cook 10 puddings in dariole moulds at the same time rather than eight!
Mini pudding steamer instructions (for Thermomix or thermo cooker):
Fill 4 lightly greased mini pudding steamers with your favourite Christmas pudding mixture, leaving 1cm space from the top. Lock on lids. Fill TC bowl with 1.5L water, place puddings in lower steaming tray and cover with lid. Steam for 1.5 hours, steaming temperature, speed 3, checking water levels regularly and topping up as needed. Allow puddings to stand for 5 minutes before turning out onto a plate. Now your mini steamers are free to reuse. Repeat with remaining puddings, bringing the water level back to 1.5L first.
