I've been seeing a version of this delicious dumpling salad all over my Instagram feed lately, and every time I think "I could make that so easily using my Silicone Steaming Mat for the Varoma!". So that's exactly what I've done, and this is one I'll be making often at home! It's fresh and light while also being incredibly satisfying, and it feels a little fancy - like I'm at an Asian restaurant, not a mid-week quick fix. Here's a 30-second clip showing just how easy it is to whip up...
What makes this recipe so easy and so delicious is the use of our Silicone Steaming Mat - your dumplings are steaming and marinating all at the same time! And your sauce doesn't need cooking first, saving you heaps of time. Our website is the only place to get our brilliant mat, check it out here (and it's cheaper than a night of takeaway!)...

Ingredients
1 red chilli, end trimmed
3 cloves garlic, peeled
3cm knob ginger, peeled
60g toasted sesame oil
60g kecap manis sweet soy sauce
1 lime, juice only
10g fish sauce (optional)
500g premade frozen dumplings (or as many will fit!), any type you like will work - you can buy or make yourself*
2 carrots, coursely grated**
1/8 red cabbage, thinly sliced**
4 spring onions, whites and greens, thinly sliced**
1/3 cup toasted sesame seeds, toasted
*For a gluten-free option, look for gluten-free dumplings - they're readily available! For a vegetarian and vegan option, omit fish sauce and use vegetable dumplings - delicious.
**I used our WunderSlicer Thermo Cutter to prepare all the veggies and it took me just a couple of minutes, with perfect results! I sliced the cabbage and spring onions using the thick slicing blade, and I grated the carrot using the larger grating disk.
Method
- Place chilli, garlic and ginger in TC bowl, chop for 5 seconds, speed 6.
- Add sesame oil, kecap manis, lime juice and fish sauce (if using). Mix for 10 seconds, speed 6.
- Place Silicone Steaming Mat for Varoma (available exclusively from us!) on upper Varoma Steaming Tray (as seen in video). Top with as many dumplings as will fit. Pour over garlic and ginger sauce from TC bowl.
- Without cleaning TC bowl, add 1L water. Place Varoma Steaming Tray on top. Steam for 20 minutes, steaming temperature, speed 3.
- In a large mixing bowl, place carrot, red cabbage, spring onions and sesame seeds. Pour on top entire contents of steaming mat; dumplings and sauce. Toss everything together and serve.
Enjoy, and hive five for cooking a delicious and nourishing meal!
