No-Dishes Mac 'n' Cheese in the Thermomix

No-Dishes Mac 'n' Cheese in the Thermomix

Oh this is going to be your new favourite recipe! We're cooking this delicious macaroni and cheese without creating ANY cooking dishes... well, except a teaspoon. Seriously. We're combining the ingredients in our Silicone Nesting Bowl, then steaming in the Thermomix Varoma in our Nesting Bowl, then grilling the top still in the Nesting Bowl, and finally serving in our Nesting Bowl! Your Thermomix bowl and Varoma will be wet but not dirty - simply invert on our Silicone Drying Mat to dry. Simple as that!

This recipe actually needs some time to sit in the fridge before grilling, making it a great one to meal prep... start the recipe when you've got a minute, perhaps at night after dinner, then keep in the fridge until you're ready to grill and serve... up to three days later. That's my idea of 'fast' food.

Here's a quick video showing you exactly how it's done...

For this recipe you'll need our Silicone Nesting Bowls which are suitable for use in the fridge, freezer, microwave, oven, air fryer, Varoma tray AND slow cooker! They're incredibly durable, versatile and endlessly reusable. Every household needs a set, and they neatly store inside one another like a Babushka doll so they'll take up minimal storage space.

With this set, you get all four Silicone Nesting Bowls of varying sizes from 400ml to 2.1L capacity... so to make your life easy, I've got a Mac 'n' Cheese recipe for three sizes - no matter if you're feeding one, two, three or four, I've got the ingredients list and the cooking times for you.

One Large Serve | Our Watermelon Bowl

Ingredients

160g macaroni pasta
100g cream (any type is fine)
200g full-fat milk
2 teaspoons Dijon mustard
3/4 teaspoon fine salt
1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika
75g grated cheese (tasty, mozzarella or any combination)

Method

  1. Fill TC bowl with 700g water. Place lower steaming tray on top. Insert Stainless Steel Trivet. Place watermelon-coloured Silicone Nesting Bowl on top of Trivet.
  2. Fill nesting bowl with pasta, cream, milk, mustard, salt and smoked paprika. No need to stir. Leave the Nesting Bowl Lid off.
  3. Place steaming tray lid on, steam for 30 minutes, steaming temperature, speed 3. You can see all this in the above video!
  4. Add cheese and give everything a really good stir, breaking up any clumps of pasta. Put nesting bowl lid on and refrigerate for minimum 3 hours (but up to 3 days).
  5. 10 to 15 minutes before you're wanting to serve, remove lid from nesting bowl and place in oven or air fryer at 180C. Grill until top is golden and bubbling. If the top is golden but the pasta still not heated through, loosely sit the lid on top of your nesting bowl - don't seal down. This will stop the top burning while still reheating. Another benefit of our brilliant Nesting Bowls!

Eat and enjoy! I like mine with a touch of chilli oil on top.
