One of my favourite tricks to get the super carnivores among us (like my dad) to enjoy a vegetarian or vegan meal is smoky flavours – I think it must remind them of a barbecue, and therefore meat! This stew is hearty thanks to the lentils, chickpeas and tomatoes, full of flavour thanks to the harissa and spices, and rich and smoky thanks to the passata, smoked paprika and liquid smoke. It’s got the tick of approval many times around the dinner (and breakfast!) table.
