My mum Janene has a great knack for making healthier swaps when cooking, and this recipe is the perfect example. It tastes like the delicious sweet hoisin sauce we know and love, but without all the dubious ingredients. Given it only takes 15 minutes to make you can whip it up on demand to accompany rice paper rolls and dumplings, toss through noodles and stir-fries, or slather on burgers and meats.

Makes 2 Cups

Ingredients

Garlic cloves, peeled
Long red chillies, halved
Chinese five-spice powder
Macadamia oil
Miso paste
Pure maple syrup
Rice vinegar
